Hey, do you still remember The New Mutants? I mean, the horror X-Men’ish film that was supposed to be released a millennia ago? No, you don’t?

That’s okay, because I totally forgot about the film, too. Until recently, when 20th Century Studios released a brand new teaser trailer for The New Mutants, which, you can view below.

The habitual and consistent push-back of release dates for this X-Men spin-off movie directed by Josh Boone needs no introduction. If you have been a fan of Marvel, X-Men, or even a casual moviegoer, chances are you have seen the first trailer of the film, which dates back to the year when Logan was released.

Now, Disney has promised a release date of 28th August 2020, which is just about one month away. Will I get too excited about that? Not really. Why? Because it is confirmed that the film will have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con@Home, which will take place pretty timely on July 23rd.

That sounds like a really, really good opportunity to further push back the release date to prevent both Disney’s children, The New Mutants and Mulan from slapping each other in the August box-office-fight. Further, if no changes are made, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet will be standing in the ring against both of them, as well.

Still, the silver lining in a cloud of failed released dates is actually the new trailer itself. Though taking form in just a puny 50-odd seconds, it has colossally changed my perspective towards the film.

Again, in the trailer, we are joined by Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt as young mutants trying to escape from what looks like a haunted hospital. But, instead of having to torture myself going through Alice Braga’s character rambling about how baby rattlesnakes are more dangerous than adult ones, and plenty of pointless jump scares, the fresh trailer finally offers a different perspective of the movie.

Maybe it is Magik’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) magic sword, or perhaps the force field depicted in the sequence. Or perhaps that portal to another dimension. Anyway. the trailer meddles into more superpowers, and less horror. Maybe this is what we are most accustomed to, or something we would have expected from a superhero film, and hence, the new trailer feels more relevant and hits more right spots.

For once, I can say that I am looking forward to the release of The New Mutants. You can check out the trailer, here:
