‘Synchronic’ Trailer: Anthony Mackie Is a Paramedic Enticed by Time-Altering Drug
Still can’t get over Tenet? How about another sci-fi film that fiddles with time? Synchronic’s trailer might not be convincing enough for the public to believe that it is a Nolan-film, but we just couldn’t deny that traces of Nolan’s obsession with time can be found within it.
Synchronic stars Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan at the front-line as paramedics of New Orleans who bump into a strange party drug, after being called for duty following a string of abnormal accidents. The drug seems to have an intricate connection with the flow of time, and after consuming it, will push you to the edge of sanity like what it is doing for Steve (Anthony Mackie). A little bit like Project Power, but instead of giving you superpowers, the pill lets you react differently towards time, in a way that still remains mysterious as of now.

The film is directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, with the duo serving as producers for Synchronic as well. Benson and Moorhead are widely recognized by their previous collaboration in directing, namely The Endless (2017) and Resolution (2012), which share the same cinematic universe. Like Nolan, the director-duo has a noticeable craze for space and time, but they tend to instill another element into their flicks -horror.
Seeing how the duo has surgically implanted moments of horror into the trailer across scenes that switches between realities, Synchronic looks promising as a snazzy little offering that defies the convention of big studios’ products. It is a trailer that begs you to watch it multiple times, because the fast-paced cuts and alternating realities do make for a potent content that leaves the audience dazed.
Synchronic made its world debut at the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) last year, and Well Go USA had acquired the rights to distribute the film across theaters and drive-ins in the U.S. this coming 23rd of October. All in all, it is refreshing to see filmmakers voicing out their concerns about the risk of Covid-19 and the safety of their audience, rather than keeping quiet to avoid messing up with ticket sales.
