Netflix’s ‘The Devil All the Time’ Trailer: It’s Tom Holland Against Robert Pattinson
It is metaphorically Spider versus a corrupted Bat in Netflix’s upcoming Gothic thriller, The Devil All the Time. The streaming giant has just released the first trailer for this upcoming film, and suffice to say that Tom Holland had revealed to us his side that we all have never seen before.
Tom Holland has to ditch his costume and web-slings to fight evil this time around, as a young, orphaned boy known as Arvin Russell. The saga takes place somewhere between Wold War II and Vietnam War, in a small settlement in Ohio, where conflicts brew between a few contenders standing by on their sides of the ring. The biggest one yet definitely goes to the unholy preacher, Preston Teagardin, who is being played by upcoming DC heartthrob Robert Pattinson. Pattinson is set to appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, scheduled to release by end of next year.
Of course, except for voice-over works which he had provided for animated films Onward and Spies in Disguise, most of the real estate that Holland’s face have been taking up on silver screens are associated with Spiderman; the character that has propelled him to stardom across a series of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The anticipated stand-off between Holland and Pattinson’s characters in The Devil All the Time just got more interesting due to these facts, but of course, that only applies if you follow both men’s work and development in the film industry.
Still, if you strip that distinction off Pattinson, and judge based on his fiery acts in the trailer alone, I am pretty sure that you will be amazed. Witness that for yourselves in the trailer below.
Other contenders who will lurch forward into the film’s messy brawl of crime and drama includes a twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), that, from what I can see in the trailer, needs an urgent trip to the mental therapist. To top in off, Sebastian Stan plays a dubious sheriff, who seems like just the perfect candidate to be all other characters’ false pillar of hope.
What is even more interesting is that a significant chunk of the trailer revolves around Russell’s deceased dad (Bill Skarsgård) that takes place in an entirely different timeline. I don’t think that this is just a coincidence, and more likely that not, The Devil All the Time will attempt to narrate its story in two parallel layers, one being ‘the past’, and another, ‘the present’. Pretty Nolan-like, love it. Or it is just me overthinking the trailer.
